The Marigold Tarot Deck Description and Review

Amrit brings her own illustrating style favoring skull characters, floral accents and delicate Punjabi clothing forward to create this surprisingly moving deck.

The images are simple, based on the Rider-Waite system, black cards with white illustrations. Metallic gold ink borders each card and brings attention to delicate parts of each card’s image.

Amrit has struck the right balance between the harshness of the skulls connected with death with the bright gold contrast bringing positivity and beauty to each card. The Major Arcana and the court cards archetypes are conveyed through skeleton beings. The harshness of the actual visuals of the skulls and skeletons are balanced by their soft movements, round gestures, and flowing garments.

The court cards of the Rings suit (pentacles). The gold ink borders and names each card, and draws attention to the suit and the repetitive patterns in the clothing and jewelry adorning each representation.

The artist describes this to be a deck that she would want to work with on her tarot journey, and I appreciate and commend the simple imagery that still lends itself to contemplation. For example, the warmth and abundance offered by XIX The Sun is difficult to offer a variation without repeating other work, and in this interpretation, the lion (a symbol of strength) absorbing and taking in the sun’s abundance is lovingly accomplished.

The Sun, featuring a common symbol of strength absorbing the sun’s abundance and warmth.
